Hi, I’m Lovette Singleton!
I’m the Chief Manager of the Nomadic 4 clan. Having gotten pregnant on 2 continents, attended pre-natal checkups on 3, changed diapers on 4 continents, which I’ve also called home, and visited 57 countries, I shamelessly awarded myself that title with pride. But you may also call me the Floating Tree.
Let me tell you about a floating tree. A floating tree is a sort of upside-down tree. Its roots are not planted in the soil, forever tieing it to one location. Instead, they stretch very high into the universe, drawing nutrients from a rich diversity of elements in many different parts of the world, to yield the strongest branches. The branches, also not limited by space and location, then spread with an endless reach to many parts of the globe. A floating tree moves wherever the wind of time takes it. And as it goes, it sheds its leaves around the world, leaving behind a piece of itself to be forever engrained in lands far away.
The fruit of a floating tree is called a nomadette, and since the nomadette doesn’t fall far from the tree, we’re all on this journey together: my 2 lovely children and my very funny husband. We, either as a couple or as a family of 4, have called 8 countries home, at one time or another. Our daughter was born in Kuwait and our son, just like his dad, was born in Washington D.C. I was born in Kano State, Nigeria, and began my nomadic adventures at 3 years old, thanks to my father’s career choice. 3 decades later, my roots are still being nourished by the many languages, cultures, practices, and experiences I’ve encountered in diverse parts of the globe. The strength that nourishment gives to my branches is expressed by the far-reaching relationships and human connections I’ve made on several continents. As for my leaves, I hope every day, that they enrich any soil they fall upon.
Here on my blog, I’ll be sharing stories, experiences, lessons, and adventures we’ve gathered on this nomadic journey of ours, through life. Just stay with me. 🙂
